On May 27, a year and three months after his illegal arrest, detained artist Ericson Acosta marks his 40th birthday inside the walls of the sub-provincial Jail in Calbayog City, Samar.
The Free Ericson Acosta Campaign (FEAC), in cooperation with Samahan ng mga Ex-Detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto) SELDA and the All-UP Academic Employees Union, will be holding “SERVE THE PEOPLE: Lugawan para sa Kalayaan”, a fund-raising event to help sustain Acosta’s legal defense funds, at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Balay Kalinaw Dining Hall.
Please join us, his friends, family, colleagues, fellow artists and supporters, as we wish Ericson freedom from unjust detention on his 40th birthday. Let us celebrate his indispensable contribution to the student movement, to nationalist art and culture and to the struggle for freedom and national democracy. Various artists and cultural groups will jam and present songs, poetry and performances .
Fresh, hot lugaw will be served at 3pm and 6pm (Php100 per serving) by fellow artists and former political detainees. Artworks, books, and crafts by political prisoners and their supporters will also be sold and auctioned at the event.
